Scrape off all the water damaged popcorn material until it is all removed and the stained ceiling is visible. You want to use the spray bottle because dabbing the mix on the ceiling can damage the sometimes brittle popcorn texture. The bleach will have cleared out the most intensive stains around your ceiling. A popcorn ceiling cleaner can be applied in the next step to improve upon how well the bleach works and to keep the ceiling from becoming discolored.

After bleaching the wooden ceiling combine one part of white vinegar with two parts of water and put it in a spray bottle. Use a clean sponge or rag and dip it into a mixture of water and bleach. The bleach must be undiluted because pure concentration works best on stains and water spots on the ceiling. Apply the solution on the ceiling using light and controlled strokes.

Vacuum or dust the ceiling to remove any left over dust. Use a paint brush and prime the water damaged ceiling with a product called kilz ceiling paint. There are two main ways to attack a water stain on a popcorn ceiling drawing the stain out or covering it up. Once you have finished bleaching mix one part white vinegar and two parts water in a spray bottle and spray it at the bleached area to neutralize the remaining bleach.

The first way to try and draw the stain out is with a concoction of bleach and water mixed into a spray bottle. Step 3 get in position. Water mildew and smoke stains. Use a sponge or rag that s damp with clean water to wipe the bleach mixture on the ceiling in a controlled manner.

Keep moisture away from your popcorn ceiling to prevent water saturation. Fill a clean spray bottle with pure bleach. Spray solution onto the stain and lightly dab the area with a rag or sponge. Apply the cleaner evenly along the treated area.
